Finalist Process:
All Finalists were selected by a jury comprised of sponsoring agencies Saatchi & Saatchi Wellness and CALCIUM associates. Once selected, all teams were interviewed by each agency about their entries to allow them to confidently select winners or a winner. Both agencies chose Nam Do as the unanimous winner of the 4th Annual Young Globals Student Competition & Internship.
TEAM “OPIOID GANG”
LYCOMING COLLEGE, PENNSYLVANIA - USA (TEAM OF 1)
NAM DO

“Pain relievers containing opioids were initially prescribed without awareness of their potential harms, which unfortunately still happens until today. At one point, I realized how similar opioids were to underground gangs: They attract followers with promises of immediate benefits, but initiated members are eventually made dependent on them. Most importantly, like underground criminals, opioids can kill their users. In portraying painkiller pills as a gang…I wanted to remind the viewers of the imminent danger of opioids and ultimately to encourage people to keep themselves and others away from it the way they would from gangs.”
